different types of classes
Based on the number of students attending a class, classes are divided into 2 types: Individual and Group Classes. Each has its own merits and demerits. Which class will suit you better depends on your needs.
Based on the mode of teaching, 2 options are provided: Online and Face-to-Face. Again, both have their own advantages but I would recommend choosing the latter unless you have a particular preference for Online Class.
Keep in mind that both modes are available for both types of classes, based on availability.
Each type of class is described in more detail below.
1. Individual Classes
These are one-on-one sessions, where the whole slot is reserved for one student. They are more expensive but come with several benefits:
- Students get individual attention and are more engaged in lessons
- There is no competition so students don’t feel pressured
- Lessons are customised according to the student’s needs
- Suitable for those who don’t work well in groups or are very shy
- If the student is absent, there is no class
- Students are forced to answer questions themselves instead of relying on friends.
2. Group Classes
A balanced number of students form a class to maintain a low teacher-student ratio. They are cheaper and have a lot of advantages:
- Learning is more fun in a group
- Healthy competition has been shown to improve performance
- There is greater scope for engaging discussions with more viewpoints
- Going to class with friends often motivates students to attend classes
- Making students explain a topic to their friend helps them learn it better
- Cooperation and teamwork not only boost performance but are also useful skills.
3. Online Classes
The class takes place using Google Meet. All assignments, tests, etc. are done using PDF files. This mode is suitable for those who do not want to travel to attend the class. The key benefits are:
- Being able to attend classes from the comfort of your home
- Being able to attend classes at late hours without worrying about transportation
- Saving on the cost of transportation
- Geographical location is no longer an issue. You can attend classes from anywhere.
4. Face-to-Face Classes
This is the traditional way of teaching where the teacher and student sit in the same room and interact face to face. This is often preferred by teachers for the following reasons:
- It is much easier to bond with students when they are physically present in front of you
- A good teacher can tell from a student’s face whether (s)he understands a topic
- It is easier to see whether they are paying attention
- Student participation is greater in actual classrooms
- This is the best setting for tests and quizzes
- Certain types of work (like graphs and SPSS practicals) require a more hands-on approach
- They never have to rely on a strong and stable internet connection, without which, online classes are often disrupted.
Irrespective of which type of class you choose, rest assured, you will get the best possible guidance to achieve your dreams. So, what are you waiting for?
